This will have no impact on my permanent boycott of EA products.

I play their free games because i assume it costs them money for the license and every time I download something from their servers.

I just treat all of their offerings, regardless of cost, as polonium.

They sell the data collected from your activity to data brokers and in multiplayer games you serve as opponent or ally to paying customers.

If you want to boycott them, avoid them. If you want to play the games that's fine, just be honest to yourself.

You suppose they're doing it out of love of the game?

Well and I don't support EA, that closes the circle

Them not supporting Linux makes it easy for me to maintain my personal ban on EnshitificationAmalgamated.

No tux, no bux

That's the only language the parasite understands.

Necessary but not sufficient.

This is the only thing EA has released in years I was interested in. Wasn’t going to buy it anyways, and now I can’t play it even if I wanted to. I’ll just stick to session and skater XL if I want the skate experience.

Tony Hawk's™ Pro Skater™ 1 + 2 works well on Linux too

Full Circle / EA...

And that is the moment where I usually stop reading 🤣

Skate 3 works in xenia to scratch the itch.

And it also works in RPCS3!

Do you know which of those two is the most accurate? I kinda want to play skate 3 now lol

I have played Kingdom Hearts and Persona 4 on RPCS3 before, with no issue.

I would gladly deal with cheaters over this BS. How are they putting it on android and iOS? What’s the excuse there?

What’s the excuse there?

Same thing as always, money

You can emulate android on Linux right? Would that be a way to run it? Not that I would really endorse still giving them money for the headache

Interesting idea. We’ll have to find out!

Oh, that's a shame. My desire to use bazzite outweighs my desire to play this game though.

If it's proton compatible, it might still be possible to play on something beefier than a steam deck, maybe?

Unfortunately, the issue is with the kernel-level EA Javelin anticheat.

Bazzite is great, EA not so much.

They can keep it. No need to buy what they f-ck up.

Well that's ok, because I don't buy EA games anyhow.

Comments from other communities

Full circle, I have confirmed that I will not be supporting EA's Skate

I was wondering why it won’t support Linux and the answer is anti cheat. Having played skate 1 and 3, I wondered why an anti cheat was needed. Apparently it’s an online game.

I have never played skate online before. Why would I want to play online over like just skating obstacles by myself? I’d rather have a skate able game in my pocket without multiplayer than multiplayer

It's funny because a lot of the reviews claim the multiplayer just feels like a shared singleplayer experience with close to no interaction. There's also supposedly no communication possible between players, and there's only a single multiplayer game and that's just a time trial for the highest score.

The anticheat is probably just to protect their awful ingame purchases.

If it's f2p I'm assuming there's going to be microtransactions to generate the income. Cosmetic microtransactions are conspicuous consumption and the 'value' comes from others seeing the items. Like skins on Fortnite, kids love showing them off to each other and that's what generates the frenzy that means they buy them. Add in a few other dark patterns (limited time sales, dodgy conversion into fake money, loot boxes, etc) and you've got a game that uses kids to extract massive amounts of money from their parents for nothing.

Unfortunately, this feels like the dominant model for a lot of big studio games now. I'm sure the next bit disappointment will be GTA. Although, interestingly FIFA / EA FC sounds like they're starting to realise that this might not be enough and are putting more effort into offline gameplay.

Fortunately, I don't care. I haven't bought an EA game since maybe 2010-ish and I have no plans to do so.

I boycotted back then and am happy to say I've stayed with it. Fuck EA.

So they only address legacy gaming setups?

Don't expect it to ever be supported either, not at least until the day Linux as a platform grows to a point where EA can't ignore it by blocking it like they also do for Apex Legends, Battlefield and more.

I forgot why I stopped playing Apex Legends.

How many “not buying it” comments will this post get before someone realizes it’s a free game?

not playing it, we have skater xl at home

To be fair, they're still not buying it

They could pay me and I still wouldn't take it.

Cool. Not buying it then.

It’s f2p.

If you don't pay for a product, you are the product. And nowadays even when you do pay for a product, you are still the product as they sell your data anyway to get paid twice.

I've been playing the Tony Hawk remastered to be fun as an alternative.

Skate 3 on an emulator for me i guess

I wanted to do another playthrough anyway

Can you finally post a gamingonlinux link without that guy's superfan trying to conduct an entire exposé?

Who?

gofsckyourself@lemmy.world spent several months trashing GOL every time there was a post, it was very tedious
